Exercise Nerds
My family is such a bunch of nerds. On saturday, my dad insisted on going for a run even though it was raining cats and dogs. Very fortunately, it let up around 8pm so the whole bunch of us marched to Chinese Garden in our full jogging regalia and shiny sports shoes. We crossed the road singly, kinda like the famous picture of the Beatles crossing Abbey Road...in serious exercise attire. Damn damn damn really nerd lah! The folks started running after the second traffic light. Budsey followed because she is pear-shaped. Empress and I fell back and were determined to finish our warm up (brisk walking for 5min).
Me: So over-achiever lah.
Empress: *nods* Very competitive.
I suspect Empress and I are the family's unwilling Rastafaris. Chill, man.
It isn't fun running with my folks. When they invite you for a jog, they are lying. LYING!!!! They sprint. Jog? That's for pansies. We decided to circle the pagoda 3 times and by the second round, I noticed I was kinda sprinting too. Can die, man. I am not good at pacing myself so I set my mum as my 'pacer'. Lesson learnt: Not smart. Also, a mental note to never invite Loverboy to run with the Cheongs because it will and definitely kill him. When Loverboy is suitably trained, he shall be allowed to run with us.
Hmmmmm....Then again, he is kinda useful for parental ego-stroking now. Hehe...*reconsiders*
During the second half of the 3rd round, dad and mum were neck to neck in a race to the finish. My dad needs to defend his male ego but mum is new age, independent woman...Empress and I rolled our eyes 50m behind and huffed and puffed, trying our darndest to stay alive.
The 3 mere rounds was way less than the usual 4-5km I do but it really tired me out. My legs were wobbly the next day. Plus you know what? Budsey circled the pagoda 6 times! Damn power.
Anyway the good news is, I've managed to get Loverboy running! Whoot. On sunday, I got him to the gym where he clocked about 3.2km. Not bad at all. He was walking 60% of the time but I am super pleased. I got him to pack his shoes and gym clothes in his luggage too. I can't wait until the day we can run around the Singapore River together. But first, baby steps. We need to conquer Clemenceau Bridge first.
Fitness for Life, sia.
I know huh. So weird coming from me. If I can become a stewardess, I can jog too! The day I decide to join a marathon WILLINGLY will be awesome. My folks will really strike toto. First prize. NO sharers. ;)
I really like how my social Life is going now. I feel pretty much in bliss. My friends are sweet, normal, non-dramatic and intelligent (Very important!!). Time at home with folks is good. Weekends are spent lazing with and teasing Loverboy. We cook alot at his place too, so my culinary skills is better than ever. I don't wanna jinx it but thank you, Superior Being! I will continue being nerdy and good.
