I had a good day yesterday. It turned our better than I dare to expect these days.
In the morning, I met one of my favourit-est people in the world, Philly. He's a big, black guy from Montreal and a cabin attendant at AirCanada. He's only been flying for 6 years and he is chief purser now. *envy* I love him to bits. He's my mother tree and the stories he tells me everytime! *more envy* He was catching a flight back to Taiwan so we had lunch at Terminal 2. I wish so hard I could see him again soon. I felt so calm after lunch with him. We conclude that mere mortals just don't get it. Only fellow airline crew do.
Joining an airline was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I've met so many interesting people and visited so many different cities I would never dream of visiting when I was young. I have seen and experienced alot myself, and it is just a mere 2.5 years. Despite the perks, flying does come with a price. I don't know which is worst, my bad health or the stereotypes associated with my job. I just never knew. Philly didn't too (And that badass didn't warn me when I was going through the interviews at my airline!!).
"Oh come on, you guys surely have lovers in every city you visit."
We get that so much. Where the hell did that come from? Yeah I guess we get laid alot more compared to average mortals because we are so much better looking (Duh, that's why we were chosen as attendants right?). I refuse to hmmmm...acknowledge the presence of people asking me that questions anymore. WTF seriously. Not all attendants live that glamourized life or is that promiscuous. Are all engineers ugly and boring? I mean, when you fly long distance as a passenger, do you get off the flight tired? Yeah, now try WORKING on that flight. The last thing on our minds is having a rendezvous with a lover when we land. We mostly just want to shower and sleep.
I really hate it. Next time I would seriously tell people that I am a cashier at NTUC. When you are a cabin attendant, EVERY MAN wants to be your friend. I just don't get it really. It's a just another job but with a nicer uniform. What gives?
Anyway bottomline is, both Philly and I are romantics and it distress us when....well general mortals (or even worse, our partners) accuse us of promiscuity. *shrugs* So be it really. Well you know what? I don't have a lover in every city but I have had dates in every city I have flown to. Yeah, eat that. And I am so bored of dating directors and CEOs.
Wait a minute....I was talking about my nice day. Yeah I did have one. After I saw Philly off at the gate, I took a slow, languid bus ride to Orchard where I fell in love with a new Nokia phone. Nice, I am gonna get that. And then I had ice-cream all the way from Wheelock to Takashimaya. There is just something very magical about havng ice-cream on a sunny, busy weekday. I spent a further 2 hours in Kinokuniya browsing all kinds of books. Went home with Kirino Natsuo and Bill Bryson in my bag.
When I got home, my favourite fat cat was loitering and spacing out near the lift.
Plain lovely.
