Nobody Said The World Was Fair eh?

Nice Mr Chee brought me to Clementi's Botak Jones for dinner. Yay~!! I ordered their famous Fish & Chips and I thought.....it was only ok. I had more love for the coleslaw and tartar sauce on the side. It was delicious but I think the best Fish & Chips was still from NJC's school canteen. The batter was just amazing and THAT was my best memory for 'A' Levels. Mmmmmmm~ Fish & Chips.

The portion at Botak Jones was huge and as usual, I had alot of leftovers (tsk tsk...wasteful eating habit); a mountain of fries left to be exact. I set my plate aside and was catching up with Mr Chee when a very elderly woman came over to our table. She had been to my table twice previously to sell me some tissue. Then, she proceeded to ask if I had finished. I said yes and picked up my empty aluminium can to give her. BUT she picked up my plate of leftover fries instead and emptied them into a yellow plastic bag.

"Waa, zhe me tuo you zhe me mei (So much and such clean, pretty fries)", she said.

I was so shocked I couldn't react for a long time. My heart broke for her in that instant and I felt so guilty I didn't buy any tissue packets from her. =( She ate my leftovers!! It could have been filthy.... Why is an old lady her age picking up leftover food? I should have offered to buy her dinner but my mind was so preoccupied with pity. Stupid me. I know at the back of my head, there are poor people around in Singapore. To have one picking my leftover in front of me is a whole different league. I felt so sorry for her. One must be really desperate to eat a stranger's leftover. Wow...and the pride to overcome. =( Such sadness.

I guess once in a blue moon, it's good to have something like this thrown in my face. I really need to appreciate the things around me more. AND make sure my parents get a way better life at their old age. The only leftover they will be eating will be shark's fins soup! (Advice: Though....please SAY NO TO SHARK'S FINS~)
