Our WTF Dinner at Central

Loverboy couldn't stop laughing on Saturday when we were at Pasta de Waraku at Central. He was so amsued by the random and bastardized Japanese the service staff were yelling. Also, the waitress that took our order was probably dyslexic or something. Obviously the orders came in numbers but she chose to wrote down everything and ultimately, still get our orders wrong. *applause* Use the numbers lah. We weren't angry even though food at Waraku was shit. I think I was feeling particularly good natured that day. On a scale between 1 and 10, both Loverboy and I gave it a very generous '2'. The lovely tomato sauce that came on top of a chicken katsu (we ordered beef) contributed 100% to the overall score. Our pasta was so tasteless we scrambled for the tomato sauce.

We were famished on Saturday. We had cereal around 10am and haven't had anything to eat since then. Our dinner at Waraku was about 6pm and it was REALLY BAD. Not even fit for teenagers because if you want equally bad pasta, at least go to Pasta Mania because it is wayyyyy cheaper. Anyway as a consolation, the stomach isn't prejudiced. It's all just carbos and proteins and amino acids at the end of the day huh?

Geesh. The pasta I make at home easily win Waraku's anytime. In fact, using MY pasta to compare is an insult lor. :P We were just too lazy to wash up on Saturday. Should have just stayed home.

And so, on sunday, we were determined to eat good pasta because Waraku was again, SO BAD. Our pasta craving must be appeased! So we went downstairs and had a very leisurely late lunch at Bella Pizza, good old comfort food. If you want good Italian food at quite reasonable prices, this is the place to go. The owner, Antonio, is from Naples and the food he serves is always excellent. I'v been there about 5 times and everytime I lick the plates clean. My favourite is Rucola Pizza - pizza with tomato base, mozzarella, arugula (rocket) and parma ham. Absolutely divine~ Loverboy's favourite is their squid ink pasta. I wish I can add pictures here. (I don't know why I can't upload any pics...will come around to fix it.) We had baked eggplants too and it was again, excellent. Seriously, I never had anything less than excellent at Bella Pizza. I had a porcini mushroom risotto once and was immediately sold.

I like how the diners here are pretty quiet too. At Waraku, it was hard not to eavesdrop. The couple next to us were probably on the first few dates....sometimes I wish the woman on the next table would shut up. Maybe she was really nervous. Anyway I am being very unfair. Comparing Waraku to Bella Pizza is akin to comparing Botak Jones to Morton's Steak House.

Bella Pizza is located at 30 Robertson Quay, #01-14 Riverside View.
Tel: (65) 6734 0139
Closed on Mondays.

Pasta de Waraku is located at #02-82/83, Central Mall.
Tel: (65) 6534 8085 No idea why you would want a reservation anyway.

We spent about $80 at Bella Pizza. A starter, 2 entrees and 1 glass of wine. It was only $25 more than Pasta de Waraku but so much better.

Forgive me but I am really am horrified at the standards of my dinner on Saturday. I immediately felt bad for myself and all the diners there. If you are going to eat at Central anyway, at least go to Ma Maison. So much better at the same price.
