Nobody forgets Maggie Cheung and the many gorgeous cheongsams she wore in Wong Kar Wai's beautiful movie, 'In The Mood for Love'. I think Maggie single-handedly raised the profile of Cheongsams in the modern fashion world and made vintage VERY sexy again.
Le sigh, how I wish I have a few in my wardrobe!
It's heartening though, to see more and more Singaporean ladies donning the traditional dress during Chinese New Year and corporate events. The Cheongsam is instantly chic. With jet black hair, some kohl eye-liner and bold red lips...you will become the guaranteed head turner. Since accessories are not required, you save money too! (unfortunately most cheongsams already cost a bomb)

I was trying to look for some cheongsams for my bridesmaids and thus, stumbled onto several good sites. One day....I will tailor one for myself and show off the beautiful cheongsam in different countries. Whoot!
Hana Fashion
Lovely lovely lovely dresses. The closest to what Maggie wore in the movie and right here in Singapore! I called them up and asked how much were they.......about SGD$1000 and up. *gulps* (First set of pics)
My Mandarin Collar
Couture-ish cheongsamsl in a modern twist. Fabrics look totally luxurious.
The Cheongsam Shoppe
The designer has apparently been in the garment industry for a long time so her tailoring skills should be good. (Second set of pictures) She also make cheongsams that cater to fuller figures.
Tong Tong Friendship Store
Oh so cute! Even if you can't afford the dresses, the wesite is a riot to explore. Soooo cute. Tong Tong creates cheongsams with a quirky and retro twist. Where Hana Fashion probably make very traditional cheongsams for uber skinny girls, Tong Tong make cheongsams that flatter all figures with a huge dose of fun.
I've my inspiration for any costume party this year:

I wanna be Maggie Cheung! But the cheongsam has to wait because I'd already made a promise to myself to be the LANDLADY with the Lion's Roar:

Or Loverboy should go as the Landlady and me as the henpecked husband! Haha!
