Around The World in 12 days

It is sooooo tiring to fly to New York these days. I think I lost weight on the flights to and fro. I've never met greedier passengers. Business class is still rather ok...but serving the Economy class is back-breaking. Can you imagine 160 passengers split between 4 crew? You think my job is glamorous? You do lah! :P

And you always get passengers who ask you for stuff not on your cart... (-_-) But I am a good crew, I tell myself it is ok. Walking burns calories and works my heart. I don't mind. Soompah! Please let me serve you.

After the long, tiring flight to New York, I was in high spirits when I came back to Singapore last Thursday because I had a connecting flight to Jakarta! Whoot, I couldn't wait to visit the Motherland of all Tai-tais!! Loverboy was working there for the week so he invited me to visit him there. So I did.

I thought the Soekarno-Hatta Airport was very rundown...on the bright side, you can claim it as very 'authentic Indonesian'. As usual, our all-powerful Singapore passport gets us everywhere and without trouble. No visas required. Everyone who saw my passport just waved me away. Shiok.

Loverboy met me at the Arrivals, ran into my arms and we had a tearful reunion. It had been a long-assed 8 days you know. Heh, like reeeeaaal. The first thing he told me was not to call him 'Sayang' in the car cuz his driver was Indonesian and might laugh at him and gossip to the office the next day. Right, got it.

I stayed in Jakarta for almost 4 days and I am now wondering what tourists do there...in fact, are there tourists in Jakarta??? Besides the National Museum and some big Monument, sight-sseing is close to zero there. (I didn't go to any) I slept n ate ALOT in Jakarta. The next morning, Loverboy had to work so I chilled in the apartment, watched MTV and spent the WHOLE day doing our laundry. Totally not in-keeping with my tai-tai lifestyle. :( Where's da domestic helper?!

The koi-pond at his apartment. When he saw the pic. Loverboy shuddered. He said they looked....ticklish

It was way better at night. We had dinner at Bebek Bali which means 'Bali Duck' and the food was FANTASTIC.

We had duck soup, grilled duck, bbq-ed duck and fried duck. FRIED DUCK you know??? Happiness. I'd always wondered if people fried duck and I found in here. I love Indonesian food. After dinner, with our stomachs suitably bloated, we went to check out clubs. Unfortunately due to Ramadan, the club Loverboy preferred was closed so we had to settle for second best. We ended up drinking Corono beers and yawning into each other's face. Even the DJ looked bored. We went home to watch Michael Jackson's HIStory DVD instead.

Sad right?

Next day was more food, more naps and again, a GREAT dinner. Our stomachs were busted, man. I do detest Korean food in general but this was good stuff.

The above pic was only half the table. Arg too much food. Anyway if you thought the Japanese employed people for even the menial-est/dumbest job (eg. elevator girls), Indonesians beat the Japanese hands down. We had people flipping our grilled meats or refilling our rice or drinks. I thought I was gonna cook my own meat at the Korean place but nope, there was a girl specially there to flip them. I just had to sit down and chew my food. Tai-tainess!

As boring as I thought Jakarta is...I like it. The Indonesians are very friendly people. Everyone has a ready smile.....very unlike Singaporeans. And they smile GENUINELY. (Even I fake my smiles on flights sometimes hehe) But you know, my impression is of course kinda skewed since I didn't see the poor in Jakarta. I hung around nice malls and saw more BMWs than Toyotas on the road. Even the thugs squatting outside Mac's smiled at me. Hahahaha~

I wanna visit Jakarta again!
