I just finished Bill Bryson's The Life And Times of The Thunderbolt Kid. I like it very much and it made me laugh out loud several times. I am not sure how many of you are familiar with Bill Bryson but you can usually find this author from the 'Travel Literature' section.

When I came across the memoirs about his childhood, I just cannot pass it up. I am a sucker such biographies/auto biographies about childhood since these usually make very cheerful, happy books. My favourite book so far is Roald Dahl's Boy. Frank McCourt's Angela's Ashes come in a very close second. Alot of others I've read are pretty entertaining too....but nothing very memorable. Bill Bryson is about wee bit better than average and it gives you a very quirky, warm insight about 1950s America too. Good, easy read. If you are curious, just drop me a text and I'll lend it to ya. But I urge everyone to buy and enjoy Angela's Ashes if you have similar tastes.
Ok then, time to go back to Natsuo Kirino and finally savour OUT. I think I need a new, happy book after I finish Kirino because Kirino is always intense.

Budsey is so enjoying her JC life, which is terribly good. She loves her classmates, her homework and all her after-school activities. She's one weird chick. Probably Gemini. Heh. I was in the same JC too but it bored the hell out of me. Then again, to be fair, I slept through JC so I pretty much spent it unconscious. Go lecture, sleep. Go tutorial, sleep. Free period, sleep. I was mainly awake for lunch and P.E. (which is bo bian. You have to be conscious to eat or exercise) Other than that, after school means going home to do my own thing (usually more sleep). Basket, I was such a sloth (still am anyway). Nobody ever have enough sleep during the A' Levels and Budsey now is running for counsellor. Empress Boodiboo and I just shook our heads. Gemini lah. Like my Ah Lian colleague said, you must hit the wall then you know pain.
Anyway I was reading the papers the other day and realise that only 25-26% of every cohort gets to go into the University (namely NUS/NTU...not sure if SMU is included). Wow that's pretty low odds. I never knew competition is that stiff since most of my friends are graduates anyway. I just took it for granted you know? That I WILL get into University and get a degree. Back in my time, the percentage was nearer to 20% I think. Anyway I just never knew demand was that high and competition that stiff. I just took it that after NJ, it was a natural that I would enter NUS. I guess it's really true, I orbit around my OWN planet. I never really thought about competition....I knew there were scholars and better geniuses out there but I knew I was not in their league, hence not in direct competition so I was all cool. WHICH PLANET DID I COME FROM?!
My fondest memories of NJC? Mee siam and spring rolls.
