Long Break

Been missing in action for some time because I made a trip to Hong Kong between the 18th and 20th. It was fully sponsored by Dad so I didn't mind going on unpaid leave. (3 days less serving my idiot countrymen, oh joy!) It was great fun because shopping is fantastic and the food in HK, even better! The highlights were mainly checking out Noi Yan Kai or Ladies market. I have never bargained so much in my life and it was really enjoyable. Apparently the shop owners were more willing to give discounts if you were the first customers. Hong Kongers walk very fast and dress well in general. When I was there, it suddenly dawned on me (again) that Singaporeans are a drab and fat looking lot.

On the first day, my dad decided to make a day trip to Macau - it wasn't too exciting since we don't gamble and he kept getting us lost so we didn't see major attractions except Hotel Lisboa. Arg, yeah it was frustrating. On the second day, my aunt, Mum and I went to Wong Tai Sin to pray and we met some really gung-ho old ladies. Once out of the train station, they ambushed all 3 of us and brainwashed us to buy their joss-sticks. I have never seen anyone hard-sell so well, plus they made me feel really bad.

Old Lady: Come on young girl, buy some joss sticks from me. *proceeds to stuff them into my bag* Buy buy buy.
RJ: Eh, I have no money, all with my mum. I'm so sorry.
Old lady: Buy buy buy, aiyo, see how old am I already? Take pity on me, how many years have I left?
RJ: Argggg...

(I wonder if a girl can beg a guy to marry her like this? "Awwww marry me please? My ovaries are shrivelling!!") Anyway I couldn't believe I was praying at the temple after seeing it on TV for so many years. Finally! So after the prayer session, there was to be more shopping at Mong Kok, Temple Street and Causeway Bay. In the evening, we had very good steamed rice at a run-down food stall. It was so authentic...the next table's customers had cockroaches running up their backs. ARG~!! I can't help shuddering when I was there...it would never make it in Singapore.

The trip was fun but unfortunately I fell ill towards the end of the trip since HK was so dusty. Also, WHAT IS IT ABOUT MEN AND NOT ASKING FOR DIRECTIONS? (ok granted, not all men are like this, especially 'ction...but then he is already good with directions) My dad keeps getting us lost even though WE WOMEN in THIS TRIP already knew the way. He insists his direction is correct and would never listen to us. *shakes fist* Wasn't very fun when your blood pressure shoots up and down several times a day. The next man I witness being all obstinate on me at directions shall have ONLY one ball left. I'm serious. If one is wrong, admit it. If one is lost, ask. Ego has no value in this day and age.

Went back to work yesterday and already met a couple of rude Singaporean passengers. As usual, if they can't find or possess something it's MY fault. "You don't have any ICC country code card I can have?!" I ain't manning Singtel Mr. Brightspark. And talking about brightsparks, it's hilarious reading about the various A* scholarly bloggers who get flak trashing the government and society in general. It's even funnier reading their public apologies because I feel they should have known better. Even my grandma knows that:

1. Scholars should not keep public blogs.
2. Scholars on government scholarships bitch-talking about the Gahmen is just REALLY looking for trouble.
3. The Singaporean gahmen is omnipresent.
4. One can hate the countrymen but must praise the country to make up for it. (Hint: like me)

*snigger* Some scholars.

I dislike the majority of the Singaporeans I have yet to meet. I am sure before I get to know them, they are mostly abrupt, rude and demanding. Not to forget, very stupid too. BUT I love staying here, I don't know where else in the world I can get food so varied and cheap. Plus, the gahmen is efficient and it doesn't bother me how stiff it is. If it works, it works. (Haha 10 brownie points! Gimme a scholarship)

Rant over, feels good. I love Hong Kong!

Haha I am uptight because I am a Singaporean myself. I'm quite sorry now that I think of it, perhaps they are not bad...a pretty generous bunch when it comes to charity. But you see, 70% of those I meet at my work are nasty and hence I can't help but conclude they aren't nice. And sweetie, you can't conclude from TV!!! *laughs* If i conclude from TV, every american must be crazy!!
